This DVD has been prepared as an aid to promoting equality by addressing the problems presented by discriminatory forms of language. It is recognised that language use can be a major source of discrimination, but unfortunately there has been a widespread tendency for the subject to be misunderstood.
‘Political correctness’, the simplistic idea that it is simply a matter of banning certain words and using others in their place, has probably done more harm than good. In this presentation leading author and equalities expert, Dr Neil Thompson, explains why being ‘PC’ is not the answer and that we need a much more sophisticated approach to tackling discriminatory forms of language.
Dr Neil Thompson is well-known in the people professions as an author, trainer, consultant and conference speaker. He has over 150 publications to his name, including several bestselling books. He has held full or honorary professorships at four UK universities and is currently a director of Avenue Consulting Ltd.
